You've Got The Power To Accomplish Your Dream

"Low self-esteem is like driving through life

                                                       with your hand-break on."

                                                            - Maxwell Maltz

I just finished reading the book Psycho-Cybernetics for the second time, and I absolutely love this book.

It's written by Maxwell Maltz, and it was first published in 1960.

I have to say that it is on my top 10 list of favorite self help books that I have read so far.

If you haven't read it yet you must get a copy and read it. It's filled with so much wisdom, teachings and insight. In other words....priceless!

Maltz was the first researcher and author to explain how the self-image has complete control over an individual's ability to achieve (or fail to achieve) any goal. And he developed techniques that anyone can use to improve and manage self-image - visualization, mental rehearsal, relaxation. These techniques have informed and inspired countless motivational gurus, sports psychologists, and self-help practitioners for more than fifty years.

The teachings of Psycho-Cybernetics are timeless because they are based on solid science and provide a prescription for thinking and acting that leads to quantifiable results.

                                                   "Accept yourself as you are.

Otherwise you will never see opportunity.

                                         You will never feel free to move toward it;

you will feel you are not deserving."

                                                            - Maxwell Maltz

Chapter Thirteen

How to Turn a Crisis into a Creative Opportunity

A "crisis" is a situation that can either make you or break you. If you react properly to the situation, a "crisis" can give you strength, power, wisdom you do not ordinarily possess. If you react improperly, a crisis can rob you of the skill, control, and ability that you ordinarily have to call upon.

In order to perform well in a crisis: (1) We need to learn certain skills under conditions where we will not be over-motivated; we need to practice without pressure. (2) We need to learn to react to crisis with aggression, rather than a defensive, attitude; to respond to the challenge in the situation, rather than to the menace; to keep our positive goal in mind. (3) We need to learn to evaluate so-called crisis situations in their true perspective; to not make mountains out of molehills, or react as if every small challenge is a matter of life and death.

From Psycho-Cybernetics.

"Within you right now is the power to do things

                                                      you never thought was possible.

This power becomes available to you just as soon

                                                      as you change your beliefs."

                                                                   - Maxwell Maltz

If you don't have a copy of this book yet.....I recommend that you get one TODAY.

Life Is Like A Puzzle

                                                               "Life is like a puzzle.

Only if you fit the pieces to the right places,

you will see the beauty of it."

                                                                     - Dave Nahar

Are you having a hard time visualizing your future goals?

Do you have a crystal clear picture in your mind what your final destination will look like when you get there?

If you can't visualize this, you are not alone. A lot of people can't see the picture in their mind of what it will look like when they have finally reached their goal.

So today I want to share a great exercise that I read about in a book a while back.

Have you ever done a puzzle?

One of those puzzles that has a pretty picture on the front and has anywhere from 500 to several thousand pieces that you must put together to be able to make it look like the picture on the front of the box.

I believe most of you have done one of these puzzles sometime in your life. I have done a few of  these puzzles, but it has been a very long time now since I did one.

Maybe you haven't done one either in a while, but I am sure you remember the idea of doing it.

Now think of your vision as a puzzle with a 1000 pieces.

First you have to decide what the picture on the front of the box is going to look like.

Then you have to start putting the puzzle together, one piece at a time. Sometimes the piece you pick up might fit right away, but sometimes it doesn't and you have to put it back and try another one and then yet another one, until you will find one that fits.

You keep doing this. One piece at a time. And the whole time you are putting the pieces together you have the picture of the front of the box constantly reminding you what it it will look like when you finish it. This picture will guide you and keep you on track and it will help you make sense of all the pieces and also where they need to go.

This is the way we build our vision for our life.

First we have to decide what kind of  picture we want on the front of the box. We must have the picture of the goal in mind and then we can start building. It's a process that is done one step at a time. Sometimes the step we take will work and sometimes it won't. At other times we have to leave that step and try it a little later and then all of a sudden it will work. The steps have to be done in a certain order to work.

We must keep working on this puzzle, a little bit every day and then finally we will lay down the last piece, and then the puzzle is complete and you can see the whole picture and it looks exactly like the picture on the front of the box.

Time To Clean Out The Toxic Influences

                                           "Sometimes ... cleaning house...

means removing what is toxic in your life.

                                           People, places, and things."

                                                          - Linda

Last week I wrote a BLOG talking about how our body is our temple and that we must keep it clean from toxins crossing our path every day. It's our own responsibility to keep our body and our mind clean and healthy.

Here is the link to the BLOG if you missed it:

http://karinglannstam.blogspot.com/2021/02/the-body-is-your-temple-keep-it-clean.html

In this BLOG I was mainly talking about how to cleanse our body in 3 simple steps.

Here they are:

  1. Stop the poisoning
  2. Cleanse the body
  3. Add the good stuff

Today I want to focus on the mind and how to keep it clean from toxins. I felt like I didn't have enough time to cover it it last week so I figure that today will be the perfect day to dig in a little deeper on how to cleanse our mind.

Some people and situations can be very negative and even toxic and it's important that we become aware of this as soon as possible.
I am sure you have had and experience with a negative or even toxic person in your own life. Maybe at work, in your family, in a romantic relationship or friendship.
It's easy to ignore the early warning sign because they are often very slow to appear. Unfortunately we often allow the people closest to us to continue with their negativity far longer than it's healthy for us.
And we often allow it to continue because in some way we feel we must tolerate it. Or we are afraid to speak up because we don't want to rock the boat at home or at work. Or we might even fear abandonment if we start setting boundaries.

I speak from experience, and I will use myself as an example.
Exactly 11 years ago I left a very narcissistic abusive partner. The relationship was wonderful for many years but slowly it became negative and eventually very toxic. It was time for me to exit before it got worse. And I did.

I am not writing this BLOG to talk about negative and toxic people, but instead how to cleanse ourselves from the very negative poison that we have been exposed to for a short period of time and sometimes we have been exposed for years, maybe even decades.

Here is the process to cleanse the mind:

  1. Stop the poisoning
  2. Cleanse the body
  3. Add the good stuff

Yes, it's the same process as cleansing the body.

First we have to stop the poisoning.
In 2012 I left the abusive relationship. I was no longer going to allow this person to poison my body, mind, spirit and also the environment where I was living. I would not have been able to cleanse my body and mind if I was still exposed to the poison.
Maybe it's time to spend less time with certain people and sometimes we might even have to cut them out of our life completely. It doesn't matter who they are, if they are negative or toxic and they are not willing to change, we must  protect ourselves, our health, and our own peace of mind.
Another great way to stop poison in our environment is to be very selective when we watch TV. Especially the news. Stop reading the newspaper.
Start paying attention to what we read, watch and listen to online and on social media.
If there is a lot of negativity at work, maybe it's time to brush up on our skills, create a new resume and start looking for a better job.

Time to do a complete cleanse.
Pay attention to what we think, talk about and write. Pay attention and stop ourselves from spreading poison to others.
In 2012 I had to start cleaning up my own thought patterns that I had developed for several years. I had to let go of talking about my ex and the life that I used to have and also my dreams for the future. It was all gone and I had to start all over again building  a new dream for my life.
Grieving was past of the cleanse and so was therapy and also group therapy. Doing a huge research project about narcissism and after getting enough understanding of it, letting it go.

Time to add the good stuff.
I have immersed myself in personal development for the last decade. I have created a new dream, new goals for my life and I also became a life coach and started my own coaching business in 2013. I continue to add the good stuff on a daily basis. I have taken some big steps out in the unknown, taken chances, had huge setbacks, got back up again, learned a lot and continuing to add more good stuff.
Learning, growing and expanding on a daily basis.
Start reading some personal development books. Listen to inspiring podcasts. Read great articles. Attend seminars live and now you can find a lot of seminars via Zoom.
Set new goals. Create a new dream for our life.
Hire a mentor or a coach to show us the way.

What types of mental poison do you need to eliminate in your life?
Are you ready to do a cleanse?
What healthier things are you going to add?

The Body Is Your Temple... Keep It Clean!

                                                 "Take care of your body.

It's the only place you have to live."

                                                          - Jim Rohn

One week ago I completed a 4 day event with Tony Robbins and 15 other speakers in the field of health, wellbeing, vitality and energy. Life Mastery was the name of the event and usually Tony does this event in Fiji, but this time we got to do it virtually from our own living room.

We were 2000 people, from almost 80 different countries that came together live via Zoom for this event. I absolutely loved Life Mastery. So much important and life changing information and wisdom presented by Tony and his team and also by the 15 guest speakers.

It started with a ice bath the first night and I have to admit, I did not participate in this ice bath.

We also went through a cleanse that Anthony William, one of Tony's speakers and the author of the book...Cleanse To Heal, had designed for us. About seven to ten days prior to the event we were all informed to drastically decrease or eliminate certain foods and drinks so that we would be ready for the cleanse when the event started.

Here are a few things that they recommend us to drastically reduce or eliminate: Sugar, gluten, dairy, processed foods, alcohol, caffeine, soda, animal flesh, cigarettes...... just to name a few. Then they suggested to bring in more vegetables and fruits and drink plenty of water.
The cleanse consisted of certain vegetables, certain fruits, smoothies, celery juice, lemon water, herb teas and plenty of water.
It was an interesting experience and not that difficult to do.
All the recipes that we used are in the book.....Cleanse To Heal.

  1. Stop the poisoning
  2. Cleanse the body
  3. Add the good stuff

First we have to take a good look at what are the poisons in our life. Here are a few examples to watch out for. Cleaning items we use in our home, perfume, scented candles, air fresheners, deodorant and certain cosmetics. Plastic is another thing that isn't good for us. Things we use in our yard to fight the bugs and the weeds.

Then we have to look at the food we eat and what we drink. A lot of items we buy at the grocery store isn't even food. The meat and dairy contain so much added stuff that is often unhealthy for us. Even vegetables and fruits have been sprayed with pesticides, so we should try to select organic as often as possible.

Lastly, all the information we are picking up via newspapers, TV, radio and the internet. Other people opinions and agenda. Who we spend time with will have an affect on us. We must constantly guard our mind from poison from the outside world and then we also have our own stinking thinking to deal with.

Then we have some poison that we have less control over and pollution is an example of that.

                                               The body is your temple!
Keep it pure and clean for the soul to reside in.

How can we win?
How can we stay healthy in a quite unhealthy world?

Stop The Poison
First we have to look at our life and become aware of all the poison and then figure out what we have control over and stop it. We do have control over a lot more than we think we do. Awareness is key. We must study, learn, seek out knowledge and then make an educated decision. Ignorance isn't bliss. Remaining ignorant can make us sick.

Cleanse The Body
When we have figured out all the poison and things that are bad for us, it's time to get rid of them. Time to cleanse to body and the mind. Get rid of things that are not good for us and that also includes people and habits.

Add The Good Stuff
Once the poison and bad stuff has left the body, it's time to add the good stuff that make us feel whole, healthy, happy and filled with energy again.

What types of poison do you need to eliminate in your life?
Are you ready to do a cleanse?
What healthier things are you going to add?
