"Low self-esteem is like driving through life
with your hand-break on."
- Maxwell Maltz
I just finished reading the book Psycho-Cybernetics for the second time, and I absolutely love this book.
It's written by Maxwell Maltz, and it was first published in 1960.
I have to say that it is on my top 10 list of favorite self help books that I have read so far.
If you haven't read it yet you must get a copy and read it. It's filled with so much wisdom, teachings and insight. In other words....priceless!
Maltz was the first researcher and author to explain how the self-image has complete control over an individual's ability to achieve (or fail to achieve) any goal. And he developed techniques that anyone can use to improve and manage self-image - visualization, mental rehearsal, relaxation. These techniques have informed and inspired countless motivational gurus, sports psychologists, and self-help practitioners for more than fifty years.
The teachings of Psycho-Cybernetics are timeless because they are based on solid science and provide a prescription for thinking and acting that leads to quantifiable results.
"Accept yourself as you are.
Otherwise you will never see opportunity.
You will never feel free to move toward it;
you will feel you are not deserving."
- Maxwell Maltz
Chapter Thirteen
How to Turn a Crisis into a Creative Opportunity
A "crisis" is a situation that can either make you or break you. If you react properly to the situation, a "crisis" can give you strength, power, wisdom you do not ordinarily possess. If you react improperly, a crisis can rob you of the skill, control, and ability that you ordinarily have to call upon.
In order to perform well in a crisis: (1) We need to learn certain skills under conditions where we will not be over-motivated; we need to practice without pressure. (2) We need to learn to react to crisis with aggression, rather than a defensive, attitude; to respond to the challenge in the situation, rather than to the menace; to keep our positive goal in mind. (3) We need to learn to evaluate so-called crisis situations in their true perspective; to not make mountains out of molehills, or react as if every small challenge is a matter of life and death.
From Psycho-Cybernetics.
"Within you right now is the power to do things
you never thought was possible.
This power becomes available to you just as soon
as you change your beliefs."
- Maxwell Maltz
If you don't have a copy of this book yet.....I recommend that you get one TODAY.
