The Power Of Persistence

                                                    "A river cuts through rock,

                                                      not because of it's power,

                                                  but because of it's persistence."

                                                             - Jim Watkins

What is PERSISTENCE?

Persistence : the quality that allows someone to continue doing something or trying to do something even though it is difficult or opposed by other people : the state of occurring or existing beyond the usual, expected, or normal time.

Here is the book selection for the month of January.
Think and Grow Rich.....written by Napoleon Hill.
Have you read it?
I believe this was my fourth time reading it. Actually this time I was listening to the audio version of it.

Think and Grow Rich is a guide to success by Napoleon Hill, which was first published in 1937 following the Great Depression. It was immediately welcomed as an antidote to hard times and remained a bestseller for decades. Many people still find its philosophy of positive thinking and its specific steps for achieving wealth both relevant and life-changing. Hill contends that our thoughts become our reality, and offers a plan and principles for transforming thoughts into riches, including visualization, affirmation, creating a Master Mind group, defining a goal, and planning.

Here are a few nuggets of wisdom from chapter 9 - Persistence

Persistence is an essential factor in the procedure of transmitting desire into its monetary equivalent. The basis of persistence is the power of will.

The majority of people are ready to throw their aims and purposes overboard, and give up at the first sign of opposition or misfortune. A few carry on despite all opposition until they attain their goal.

Lack of persistence is one of the major causes of failure. Moreover, experience with thousands of people have proved that lack of persistence is a weakness common to the majority of people. The ease with which lack of persistence may be conquered will depend entirely upon the intensity of one's desire.

The starting point of all achievements is desire. Keep this in mind. Weak desires bring weak results, just as a small amount of fire makes a small amount of heat. If you find yourself lacking in persistence, this weakness may be remedied by building a strong fire under your desires.

You may find it necessary to "snap" out of your mental inertia through a similar procedure, moving slowly at first, then increasing your speed until you gain complete control over your will. Be persistent no matter how slowly you may, at first, have to move. With persistence will come success.

There is no substitute for persistence! It cannot be supplanted by any other quality! Remember this in the beginning and it will hearten you when the going may seem difficult and slow.

Those who can "take it" are bountiful rewarded for their persistence. They receive, as their compensation, whatever goal they are pursuing. That is not all! They receive something infinitely more important than material compensations - the knowledge that every failure brings with it the seed of an equivalent advantage.

A few people know from experience the soundness of persistence. They are the ones who have not accepted defeat as being anything more than temporary. They are the ones whose desires are so persistently applied that defeat is finally changes into victory. We who stand on the sidelines of life see the overwhelmingly large number who go down in defeat, never to rise again.

"Energy and persistence conquer all things."
